Inspired by Jean-Luc Godard’s films Le Mépris and Weekend, auéééu propose to think about the feeling of contempt, this lack of consideration for the relationships we cultivate in our lives, the exercise of dominant power, the maintenance of beings for whom we feel contempt. This feeling of contempt presupposes a relationship of the gaze of the other towards the despised person - a gaze that renders the person invisible, that denies the first gesture of humanity, because it does not recognise him as a fellow man, reducing him to insignificance and removing him from existence - or rather, conferring an indifferent existence to him. What does this contempt reveal to us? What does it tell us about the despiser and the despised? What structuring thought is revealed from this observation?
