“Eu Cá, Tu Lá” (I Here, You There) is an initiation work for listening. One person listens to the other. Starting from sound recordings of words taken from different contexts, such as motivational speeches, announcement of a lottery prize, YouTube tutorials or interviews with children in different parts of Portugal, this work explores the beauty and power of orality. Not only in terms of different ways of speaking, but also in the way that things are said. This work is born precisely on this border between the intimate space (me, here) and contact with the other (you, there). Behind a “word” there is always someone who uses this linguistic mechanism as a gesture to draw closer to another.
